I would rather sit on a pumpkin and have it all to myself than be crowded on a velvet cushion.

said the three weird sisters...

Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg, and owlet's wing,
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.

William Shakespeare

Longfellow

Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sand of time;

Footprints, that perhaps another,
Sailing o'er life's solenm main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing, shall take heart again.

Let us then be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labor and to wait.

So dreams the Sicilian

JVI

My grandfather met my brother in a dream last night.  Giancarlo was there to lead him home.  After 99 years on earth, it is hard to think of him, his laughter, his bravado, his love of family, and think of his passing as a loss.  He was here, and for a long time.  There are just too many happy memories gained to use the word "loss" - it is simply incompatible.  I love you, Pal.

Keep me away from the wisdom which does not cry, the philosophy which does not laugh and the greatness which does not bow before children.

John Muir

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.
